Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our wonderful school is a charming, tight-knit, neighborhood school that has educated generations of children and their families.
The population of our school is rich in diversity, however, we are a 100% free & reduced lunch site.
We do our very best to provide a warm and inviting environment for our students.
In my 6th grade classroom, I hope to nourish and create life-long learners. We read the Percy Jackson series, which has a modern day connection to Ancient Greek Mythology. I find it exciting when my reluctant readers tell me they love reading these books.
My Project
Students who learn to love reading as children will become life-long learners who enjoy reading as adults. A book can take you on an adventure to ancient civilizations or expose you to new and interesting ideas. Reading not only improves your grades but enhances your life and expands your mind.
But, who wants to sit in a hard and uncomfortable school chair, under fluorescent lighting when they crack open a good book?
Nobody! Curling up with a new book on a cozy rug--snuggling up with a soft pillow--turning on a warm, glowing lamp...now that's what I call ready for reading!
I am humbly requesting your help in purchasing these requested area rugs, pillows, and lamps to create a welcoming and relaxing reading space for my students. Our classroom has a tiled floor, fluorescent lighting, and very small windows. With very little natural lighting and no comfortable seating, my 6th graders have to sit in hard plastic chairs when reading.
Help me provide a charming, inviting, and cozy reading space for my amazing 6th graders!
