There's No Aid Like First Aid

My Students

As a middle school teacher in a very low-income school, I see that my students are faced with many challenges that occur in and out of school. When students come to our school, they feel comfort, safety, and stability that they may not have at home. The students I teach love to receive positive praise and attention. I want to be able to provide my students with a safe, positive, and meaningful academic environment.

Over 65% of my students receive free and reduced-price lunch. Most students come from immigrant families and live in a low socioeconomic community. These factors may have a huge impact on the students' academic success as well as being exposed to experiences that build background knowledge.

When students enter my classroom, I believe it is important to focus on the growth and potential that each student has. I try to instill in my students that everyone can be a leader no matter what background you have or where you have come from.

My Project

Teaching is the most rewarding job someone can have. You take on the role of teacher, caretaker, friend, protector, and occasionally, doctor. I want my classroom to be prepared for any natural or man-made disaster that may present itself. The safety of my students is the number one priority in my classroom. When we have drills for lockdowns, we need to barricade our doors in case of a real emergency.

With these supplies, our classroom and school will be a safe place even in the event of an emergency for all students.

Supplying our classroom with first aid basics like bandaids, alcohol wipes, gauze, tweezers, shears, antibacterial gel, flashlight, gloves, ice compresses, safety pins, tourniquets, emergency blankets, and more to create custom emergency backpacks for all teachers ensures that I not only have the materials needed to give life-saving help but that I am trained and prepared to if the time comes. These kits will make it a smoother and less scary transition for the students (especially our kiddos with severe special needs) to feel safe and comfortable while we learn and have fun in the classroom especially with over 750 students that I am helping support. Hopefully, we will never be in this situation, but providing a sense of safety to our students is of utmost importance.
