This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are middle school students in grades 6, 7, and 8. The majority of my students are African American. A high number of my students are non-English speakers (mostly Hispanic). My students live in a high poverty, high crime, blue collar community.
My students enjoy using technology in their classes.
iPads, especially, make learning fun for my students with the great variety of apps available. iPads also enable my students to get immediate feedback from their teachers as well as collaborate with other students in the class in real time.
My Project
My school has a class set of iPads in every core classroom (ELA, math, science, social studies) for students to use in each of those classes. However, there are no class sets of iPads in the related arts classrooms (art, robotics, music, physical education).
We have the iPads necessary to create one class set to be shared among the related arts classes; however, we do not have a charging cart or the necessary charging accessories (USB cables and adapters) for these iPads.
Having a charging cart in the classroom would help students to always have a charged iPad to complete their work.
Being able to use iPads in their related arts classes will enhance the academic experience of students at my school by allowing them to use appropriate apps, such as Drawing Desk for art and Sworkit Kids for physical education, in their related-arts classes.
