Mrs. Douglas from Augusta GA is requesting computers & tablets through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need to have a computer mouse for the laptops to help them learn how to navigate using computers before we expect them to use touch pads.

I am an instructional coach in a low-income/high poverty school district with students who are very transient. Our students are constantly faced with challenges. Providing exciting, meaningful educational experiences that they can carry throughout their lives is key.
Our students are eager learners who are open to new experiences!
Like everyone, they love feeling successful. I want to help support these students and their classroom teachers in creating and implementing these successful experiences. Many of them are being raised by a single parent or even grandparents and the entire school receives fee free lunches. Often these students don't have early education experiences (Pre-K) or don't have the opportunities that support foundational skills. Providing exciting, learning activities that are engaging is a great way to helps these amazing children begin the road to being lifelong learners.
All of our students are required to do certain tasks on the computer. Since this is a 21st Century skill, that's fantastic! We are finally lucky enough to have laptops for each grade level. Unfortunately, many of our students don't have access to computers at home and successfully using computers isn't the same as navigating on their parents' phones.
Learning to use the laptops, first using a mouse, will help ease students into this important life skill of computer literacy.
They will be able to take their required Benchmark Assessments, as well as play exciting educational games, without the stress of learning both the keyboard and touch pad mousing at the same time. Having a mouse for each of these younger children will provide a gateway to improved computer skills.
