I teach Early Childhood Special Education in a “Blended Model” classroom. In my classroom children are either labeled “at-risk” for academic failure or they have identified disabilities.
You may wonder why these manipulatives are so miraculous. The sets we currently have in our classroom have helped us teach counting, 1:1 correspondence, colors, and patterning in math. They have helped us teach verbal skills and sign language skills to label items in the environment. In our water table they often hide in sand and corn meal in order to be “discovered” in science activities. In addition they serve as “transition” items for little hands to hold onto in the hallways, during circle time, or library time for students with special needs that have difficulty going from one activity to the next.
Lakeshore learning makes a variety of these manipulatives as well as some unique manipulatives for math games. The skills we teach on a daily basis can be enhanced by having a variety of “miracle manipulatives” hiding in our pockets and around our classroom for everyone to enhance the learning of my preschoolers.
