Help me give my students games to use indoors and learn cooperative play such as board games like Candyland, imanginative play options like a veterinarian and ice cream set, and buzzers for group quiz games.

Each day, first graders depend on me to teach them how to read, write, and obtain problem-solving skills that will be the foundation of their education. These students come from a variety of diverse backgrounds. Their families qualify for free lunch and often do not have the means to provide literature, manipulatives, and other educational tools at home. So, I feel it is my role to provide them with rich learning experiences on a day to day basis.
Due to their backgrounds and limitations in resources at home, my students often enter elementary school significantly behind their more affluent peers.
Currently, we are heading into harsh winter weather, which often prevents us from going outside to play. This gives us the opportunity to play inside with different games such as Candyland, Trouble and Hungry Hungry Hippos. I have also included a handful of imaginative activities such as a veterinarian play center, ice cream shop, and roadway carpet with special vehicles. These imaginative play options will help build their creativity and teamwork as they work together to make a pretend scenario. Young students need options for different activities to play as they quickly lose interest due to their often short attention span.
Additionally, I noticed that my students struggle to play games that require cooperation with one another, which is something I hope to correct in order to help create a stronger sense of community in the classroom.
In order to do this, we will use the buzzers for class quiz games that will build comradery and give opportunities to work together toward the same goal.
With these tools, I will be able to model for students and observe their skills when it comes to sharing, losing with grace, and working together as a team to complete a task. In doing this, I hope to give my students transferable life skills that will help them later in school and in the work force.
