it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Hi everyone, I am a speech therapist who is currently working at some of the schools within district one. Speech and occupational and therapists work with students in special education that require alternative methods of accessing their curriculum.
Many of our students have developmental delays, Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Genetic disorders, communication and fine motor, delays, sensory processing difficulties, hearing impairments, and emotional disabilities.
We service a wide variety of ages and schools and are looking for help purchasing equipment and materials that will help us meet our students' specific needs. Thank you for considering our projects in support of our exceptional students.
My Project
As therapists in the school setting, we are working on increasing our students' communication skills, fine/gross motor skills, and meeting their sensory needs in order to increase success within the classroom. Many of our students have academic, emotional, behavioral, and developmental delays.
These items will be used directly with our students on a daily basis to provide support and the proper environment to meet their needs and foster success.
For example, many of our sensory seeking students could benefit from alternative seating and crash pads/mats. Some alternative seating methods may include a bean bag, ball chairs and wiggle seats to provide extra input (proprioceptive and vestibular) input to our sensory seekers. Students in our ED and Autism programs may benefit from crash pads and mats for outlets and extra sensory input. Fidget items will help our students attend and participate in the classroom and can provide appropriate classroom interventions. Students with communication delays will benefit from the use of visuals and oral motor tools to increase overall communicative skills. Many of the toy/play based items promote active communication and social skills without students during therapy sessions.
