Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Creativity is the secret sauce to science, technology, engineering and math (STEM)." ~Anissa Ramirez once said. My project, "Empowering Students Through Art" will help all of my students express themselves through art.
My students are a wonderful bunch that is eager to learn and put forth great effort in class with the materials we currently have.
I work with a large culturally and linguistically diverse group of learners, which include primary grade levels. I work with students who have autism, students with specific learning disabilities, and speech-language impairments. My students attend an elementary school where close to 70% of our students are English Language Learners and 90% of our students receive free or reduced lunch.
My Project
I would like the arts to meets informational text with this science integrated observation drawing activity. My students will read about Georgia O’Keeffe then respond to informational text and write about the artist art work. The lesson will continue with an observation of several of O’Keeffe’s flower paintings with a focus on detail, radial symmetry, shading. After, my students will create their own surrealistic drawings by looking at flower paintings, then tracing and shading in large scale flowers in the style of O’Keeffe by using the trace light boxes.
I would also like to have a collection of Koosh balls, fidget pieces, stress balls, squeeze toys, and Theraputty to help them focus during our lessons. Fidget toys are self-regulation tools to help with focus, attention, calming, and active listening. The timers will be use to time my students when they use the fidget toys. The tally trackers will be use to track data before and after my students use the fidget toys.
Please help my students by contributing to markers, Koosh balls, fidget pieces, stress balls, squeeze toys, Theraputty, two trace light boxes, tally trackers, and timers for our creative art projects.
These resources will help my students learn and appreciate art. With the help of generous donors, my students will develop a love for art and these worthwhile art experiences will help my students become lifelong artist and learners.
