The student body of my school comes from very diverse and rich backgrounds. Many of our students were born in different countries and speak other languages (besides or instead of English) at home. As a school social worker, I see many of my students have difficulties regulating their emotions and dealing with conflict. Many of my students need assistance learning to take care of themselves. They need coaching and education around how to calm their minds and bodies when situations can get complicated.
My Project
Making the change from elementary to high school, I found a few of my games to be not quite right for treating my clients! These materials will both provide sensory relief, such as the sensory rings and Tom's Fidget rings, and help aid the therapeutic process.
These games will help engage students who have a more difficult time expressing their inner thoughts and feelings as well as promote positive dialogue.
The Better Me game and the Ungame for Teens will promote relationship building both therapeutically with me as their therapist but also between students in group settings. These games also allow for flexible thinking and problem solving, and of course the table will be for game play!
