I am putting together a new classroom for next year, moving from teaching special education preschool to transitional kindergarten. This kindergarten class is designed for special needs kindergarten-aged children who, we think, will be able to be mainstreamed after another year of intensive intervention. It is on a regular public school campus. Most of my students come from families of poverty and risk- this means lots of TV, and little or no books in the home! I am designing a beautiful reading "nook" in my classroom, but am realizing I need to both expand my library and nudge the level of the books up just a bit to suit my older kids. I am planning a literacy-intensive year, with themed books offered, as well as featured authors every month. High quality books are pricey (though worth every penny!) and I am hoping for a generous soul to help me fulfill this dream. Thank you for your time!
