I have eighteen amazing pre-k students. They live in an urban area and face many struggles and challenges. School is a very important place for them. It is a safe place where they come to grow, learn and explore. I truly love teaching them and helping them to build their foundation for future learning. They absorb new information like sponges and have an excitement for life. They always keep me laughing with their funny stories and sayings. I look forward to watching them grow and learn this school year.
My Project
Young children learn by imagining and engaging in pretend play. I would love to have a stand to put in the dramatic play center that I can use for several different themes. It would make it possible to have a grocery store, a bakery, a flower shop, and even a Veterinarian's office. I would also like to have a puppet theater with puppets. As students pretend to be someone or something else, it is a safe way for them to act out real life events.
As children engage in pretend play, they are building skills in many essential developmental areas.
They are building their social and emotional skills. They learn how to take turns, cooperate, and interact with other children. They also develop language skills. They learn new vocabulary, practice speaking, and also make a connection between spoken and written language. Finally, they develop cognitive skills as they problem solve.
