My students need 35 copies of the plays Antigone, Pygmalion, and Taming of the Shrew to learn acting techniques and take them through a variety of times, themes, and acting styles.
Our class starts with a writing prompt to help the budding actors explore their emotions. We then do some movement activities and some get to know you activities before we take to the stage. I really want every single student to be comfortable speaking on and off stage and to love the theatre.
I have a wide variety of students in class coming from all backgrounds and levels.
Being a golden ribbon school at what can only be called an urban school means we need to come extra prepared. The students are eager to learn to act and take those skills into the world at large. They are eager to learn the craft of acting, and some of them even want to pursue a career in acting.
My Project
My students need 35 copies of the plays Antigone, Pygmalion, and Taming to learn acting techniques and take them through a variety of times, themes, and acting styles. With these play books, we are going to explore not just the how of acting but a little of the why. Each play was chosen to capture the history and styles that create theatre. While this does not begin to scratch the surface of all we could learn, it is an introduction my students need to understand what they need to start acting.
My students will learn what to do when they do not understand the lines. They will see a wide range of emotions needed to act in several parts. Students will get to learn a little history of the plays so they can understand why they were written. They will then learn to appreciate the play for what it was for the writer. They will also be able to turn the whole play upside down and act what it means today.
We currently have no books to use.
We are learning how to move our bodies on stage. The next logical step is to act with plays. I firmly believe that acting is the best way to get out of a comfort zone, shell, or shy personality. Acting lets you be someone else, and this will help those shy few excel and those blossoming actors become amazing.
