Theatre Mask... The Other Kind

My Students

Every day I have the opportunity to work with talented actors, singers, dancers, engineers, and artists. I am not referring to my colleagues. I am referring to my 7th and 8th-grade students. I teach musical theatre at an under-served Title l school in Pennsylvania. My musical theatre class helps students build healthy relationships and build self-esteem.

My class is a place for students to cultivate their skills and it gives students the confidence to break out of their comfort zone and be a part of an inclusive environment, conducive to both their academic and social growth.

I introduce my students to various aspects of theatre. My students are exposed to both the art (dancing, singing, make-up, costume design) and science (music technology, lighting, stage crew, prop production) of musical theatre.

Despite the challenges that my students face inside and outside the classroom, they arrive to class excited to create, but they need the resources and technology to make their creative ideas come to life.

My Project

We are currently in a pandemic, and our primary concern is our students' safety. We are doing our best to keep students safe and also provide opportunities to return to a sense of normalcy. One way I hope to accomplish this is our annual spring musical. My students will be singing, dancing, and acting.

This project is simple, we are asking for transparent face shields so that my students can hygienically perform on stage.

In this project, I am requesting face shields for every member of the cast and crew.
