Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach theatre to over 100 middle and high school students from a diverse socio-economic background. In the last year, we have built a theatre program together from the ground up including two middle school plays and high school plays and musicals each year. My students live for the theatre arts and have found a home for themselves in our new department. Many students say that theatre is the reason they come to school. We are an up and coming department and we’re honored with a Bobby G Award from the Denver Center for the Performing Arts for our Spring 2020 production of Footloose! The senior class is exceptionally talented and deserve full productions this year. Due to the Pandemic, our budget was slashed in half and our hopes for a full theatre season were crushed. However the students rallied and created an online fall play. These donations will help us purchase lighting to improve our plays and musicals from home.
My Project
I hope to purchase cellphone lighting trees for my spring musical students. This would allow each student to receive studio quality lighting while they record their parts for the spring musical using their cell phones.
Many of my students rely on natural daylight to complete their projects so when night falls the projects lose quality because of a lack of lighting access.
