Theatre Lighting

Help me give my students an opportunity to run lights and sound from a computer dedicated to theatre technology. Students will learn and practice lighting and sound design.

My Students

My middle school is located in South Carolina. 54% of the school is on free or reduced-price lunch. There are a total of 897 students in the school. All the students have an arts class; including theatre, dance, music, band, strings visual arts and creative writing. Classes in theatre average 25 students per class. Challenges that the arts classes have are overcrowded classes with no budget to buy teaching materials. Another challenge is that every student has an art class whether they want one or not and while it is important to expose the students to the arts, no student has to pass the class in order to pass the grade. Some students consider their arts class purely social time which can destroy the class for students who are motivated.

My Project

Please help make my theatre classroom exceptional. We have lighting and sound equipment but no reliable way to control it. My classroom usually gets old unreliable computers for student use.

With the funding of this project, my students will get a new computer dedicated to running lights and sound in my classroom.

We already have the needed software and equipment. Now we need something sturdy, to make the magic.

As I write this grant, I am sitting in my classroom on a Saturday before my Fall show and the eight year old school computer is not turning on. I have one day to scramble to make the show happen. Help me get some sleep before productions!
