Theatre Brought to Life: Shakespeare Production Equipment

My Students

My school has been building a Shakespeare program over the last six years, where students study his works and put on a full scale production. For the last two years, we've done summer camps due to Covid, and this year we are finally returning to a full scale production.

The kids are so excited about putting on the play, but they need equipment in order to make it truly special.

They spent the fall doing an academic study of the Shakespearean language and time period, and now they get to acting side of things. This program is especially pertinent this year, as many of them are aching for an educational opportunity that allows them to interact socially and be a part of a group. I've seen so many friendships develop out of this program and right now, a safe space and group of like-minded individuals is just what they need.

In the past, we've had connections for wireless microphones and lighting trees that save a lot of money for the program. This year, I'm hoping to do a DonorsChoose project to finally buy our own equipment that will be used for years to come.

My Project

Since the pandemic began, students have largely missed out on social experiences that allow them to express themselves. Theatre is a great tool for building confidence, bringing students together, and giving them the tools to learn more about themselves. Additionally, Shakespeare allows them to explore language in a way they never have before.

The materials we are requesting would allow us to create a stage experience that matches the dedication these kids have to the program.

If you think that getting 12-15 year old kids interested in Shakespeare is hard, then you'd be mistaken. These children are intrigued by the language, enthralled by performing his works, and so excited to spend time with each other and make friends. They rehearse multiple times a week, and spent the full first half of the year doing an academic study. They deserve the equipment to make their performance truly special.
