My students love learning and crave new experiences. In our Title I school, the backgrounds of my students are diverse. Despite socioeconomic hardship, my students are eager to rise to challenges. They especially enjoy coming to school when they are looking forward to the projects we are working on.
My culturally diverse students work together as one unit being the support for one another and being responsible for their learning.
They care about learning and collaborating to help each other as a team.
Our school in southwestern Florida is a beautiful place to learn and grow. Through grants, my class has gotten tablets and expanded our school garden. We find importance in problem-solving as a team and learning in the real world. Exploring the plants and insects in our garden and recording our journey on our tablets has created an exciting atmosphere for my little scientists. We want to have more opportunities to explore and create as a team.
My Project
I run our school's K-5 Science Lab. Many of the materials the students currently have to explore are focused on my 3rd through 5th grade students because they are in the "testing grades." I need some inspirational engineering and exploration materials to create a Makers Space for my youngest scientists.
With the IO Building Table and Magnetism Set, my kindergarten, first, and second graders will have a space of their own to develop their building, problem solving, perseverance, and social skills.
The sets allow students to explore how pieces fit together to create a larger structure, how forces create motion, and how magnets can repel and attract. My students love to create and work together with one another. These 21st century skills are important even at the youngest age!
