My Students

We live in a beautiful area of Idaho, a rural area in the shadow of the Teton Mountains. Despite being a world class tourist destination, we are a Title I school in one of the lowest per-pupil funded states in the nation.

These are kids that love being outdoors and enjoy learning about the natural world, but lack the vast experiences located within a day's drive.

Each year I am surprised by how many of my students have never visited the national parks in their backyard!

My Project

My students know that they live near a world-famous national park. They know that our region is home to moose, bears, and other wild animals. They know that they are expected to be stewards of this environment. Yet, for most, they don't know the whats, whys, and hows of these truths.

Expedition Yellowstone allows students to be immersed in the historical, ecological, and geological issues of their local national park.

Through this program, students will investigate first-hand these topics through field trips and expert ranger-led activities, plus the opportunity to spend an entire week in the park during the winter months.
