Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Music has a way of relieving stress, healing broken hearts, and turning frowns into smiles. I enjoy seeing the little faces light up when we talk about playing different instruments in music class. Thanks to the district and my principal we are able to have a music room again. We want to keep the excitement alive with xylophones in the classroom.
I have seen the creativity of my students through their work on xylophones.
We just don't have enough for every student to at least work in pairs on an instrument. We have six xylophones and four classes of about 18 students in each class. So if we are able to get at least six more xylophones would be a tremendous help.
We are a Title I school, and 100% of our population receives free lunch. Our school is located in Nevada, one of the most underfunded states when it comes to education. I am reaching out to you to support me in keeping the creativity of our youth going with your support to obtain more xylophones for use in the classroom.
My Project
The instruments that we are seeking will make a tremendous difference in the music program. We have outdated xylophones that have been here since the school opened. Two of the xylophones' legs have been replaced with wood because of wear and tear. I currently have to teach in rotation because I only have six that are in working condition.
By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student creativity but also student participation, which will ultimately help with music scores and academic achievement.
I have chosen mallets to also give all students a chance to participate at the same time and less time rotating, which will allow more time for students to perform on the instruments.
