Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My AP US History students come from all areas in our city. They come in wanting to know why 400 years ago matters today. 140 young adults are being educated on how to become citizens of the United States and the globe.
They are young adults who thrive off a challenge.
I want to push their ideas to the limit to have them appreciate all who have come before them. They are asked to bring me questions they want answers to and I, in turn, provide them the resources to draw their own answers and ideas.
My Project
Students have expressed that colors add to their positive understanding of content! Seeing their color coded essays and samples is helping them visualize what their essays have and need. Providing them with the colors to help score is great. Then the whiteboard will help us collectively edit and chart sentences. Finally the notebooks are for their ever growing writing needs with IDs that they use to fill their essays and tests with history facts and evidence.
The skill of writing is the best thing I can send them off with because no matter what field they go into, articulating arguments with evidence will help them.
Writing takes work and if they are willing to work hard in here, I am willing to do whatever I can to get them to like and put forth the best writing pieces possible.
