Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Greetings! I am a 1st grade teacher in the Chicago Public School system. My students are eager to become young authors and that is why I am asking for your help in providing our classroom with a Writing Center.
The Writing Center will become an important part of our curriculum on a daily basis. It will allow students to work independently where they can create pieces of writing that they can call their own. It will also become an asset when the students rotate through centers and participate in small group instruction. The center is designed to seat up to 4 students at a time and has overhead storage compartments where the students will have access to various supplies.
When the students are at the Writing Center they will learn the essential steps of the writing process. They will come away with an end product that can be taken to the Author's Chair and read to the class.
Writing is an important subject that occurs across the curriculum. Therefore, the Writing Center will be integrated in not only Language Arts, but in Math, Science, Social Studies and Fine Arts. The students will also be able to enhance their oral fluency, build their vocabulary skills, and develop better comprehension.
My students would enjoy the opportunity to work at a Writing Center. I believe it would be beneficial to all who participate. Hopefully, in the future my class will be able to recall their time at the Writing Center and remember how important it is to have good writing skills that they can use in their futures.
