Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is located in a large, urban city with a diverse population. Many of my students come from single-parent families or from families where both parents work long hours to support their families. Often times, several generations live together in the same house.
Many of my students come from homes where English is not the only language spoken, and many have come to us from other countries.
All of my students receive free lunch. I am lucky enough to teach an awesome group of middle school students who are creative, eager, and enthusiastic. They are always interested in learning more about a topic and constantly challenge me to be on my toes. I want to teach my kids the required subject matter, but I also want to teach them to be themselves, have fun learning and to love reading! Thank you for joining us on our journey.
My Project
In my Language Arts and History classes, I work with some awesome middle school students who strive to do their best everyday, even if it is a struggle. They love to read, write, and express their ideas. They are incredibly creative and love to show off what they have learned. We use a variety of ways to show off; from essays and posters to comic books and timelines, my kids are always coming up with new and unique ways to show what they know. Their creative skills are always on display, which means we are always running low on writing supplies.
Because we are always writing, drawing, and creating, we are in need of new pencils, markers, and pens to help us continue to show what we know!
The pencils are an everyday need which all of my kids will use. The colorful pens and markers will allow my students to create unique and eye-catching projects in english and US History. They lap desks will allow my students to work anywhere in the room giving them a bit of freedom and choice in their workspace.
Whether it is an essay analyzing their favorite book character, a timeline of the Civil War or a comic book retelling the adventures of Lewis and Clark my kids love to create and these writing and drawing supplies will help them get the job done!
