Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach first grade in a suburban area outside of Houston. We are a title 1 campus. Our school is the midpoint for the neighbor in which I serve. Community plays a critical role in the success of our students. The support is in place but just like with many other schools around the country, the financial needs are present.
My first grade students are a budding group of learners.
First graders walk in daily with a desire to learn and feel connected. Engagement is a given for such an eager age group of students. In promoting engagement, the classroom environment should be welcoming and inviting to set the stage for daily learning!
My Project
Literacy is the core for all first grade classrooms. Reading and writing go hand and hand. During our reading block students are able to go to various literacy stations. One of my goals for this school year is to create a writing station that promotes a love for writing. This donation will allow my students to have a variety of writing materials, an electric pencil sharpener and a paper storage area for the writing center. The writing center allows students to write, create and practice at their individual level. In providing fun and colorful writing materials the students will be eager to work in the writing station.
