This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Many of my students come into my class without any previous structured educational experiences. Parents do not enroll or cannot afford preschool for their children, or do not know it is available.
My students come to me with a great disadvantage of not knowing how to hold a pencil, cut with scissors, or not even knowing color names.
I work in the high poverty and high crime area of my city. Students come to school not prepared for learning and rule following, and many do not speak English. When my students walk through my door, I want them to feel safe, loved, and that learning is fun!
My Project
Kindergarten students need to write to help them learn to be good readers. They need a lot of exposure to writing, which many of my students have not had before this important year.
Kindergarten students need the ability to move around and write everywhere!
Clipboards help them move around the room, school, and outside.
The journals are especially designed for primary writers to draw their picture and write on the lines underneath. They get to be the illustrator and author on paper made for them!
The dry erase markers and plastic sleeves create positive writing experiences for the beginning learner that is tracing and learning the way letters are formed.
