This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I am a third grade teacher from the southside of Chicago. My students have not always had the best of everything, but they value learning and have been excited to jump into third grade material, which they are learning is a huge difference from second grade!
This year I am teaching my enthusiastic group of students the joys of writing. We have been talking about how writing can serve as a way to remember your thoughts, express your creativity or even make someone else feel good. Learning the skills of writing will not only help them score highly on the tests they'll be taking in March, but it will give them a life-long tool that will come in handy for the rest of their lives.
We have a huge area designated specifically for writing in our class and the students are super excited to use it. There is one problem: we don't have the basic supplies. In order for us to be able to do our best writing we need the best supplies. We need markers, crayons, and colored pencils for decorating and illustrating along with paper to write our masterpieces on. Construction paper and card stock can be used for covers for our books. Basically, we want a publishing center that is out of this world and we know you can help. Hopefully because of your generous donation my students will be writing books, letters, and stories that everyone will want to read. Who knows, I could have a group of future authors on my hands. All we need to find that out is the "write" stuff. Thank you in advance for all of your help.
