This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The paradigm has shifted from 20th century learning to the cooperative, student centered learning of the 21st century. No longer do students learn by listening only, they learn by incorporating all learning styles.
Our school is a Title I school where 84 percent of our students are economically disadvantaged.
Our students are of various ethnic backgrounds but the school has limited resources for teachers to be able to differentiate instruction for all students to be successful academically.
My Project
With these resources, teachers will be able to make the world come alive and interactive for the students. The students will be engaged in cooperative learning activities and will be able to explain, discuss, and write responses and ideas with confidence which will allow them to be better prepared for college and career. The Time for Kids and Scholastic News articles will keep student abreast on what is going in the world around them. As a result, students will be able to think critically and compare and contrast what is going on in their communities with other student who live elsewhere, who are just like them, and write about the problems and possible solutions.
The grammar workbooks and other resources will provide support and guidance in the writing process. With opportunities to practice writing, students will be participating in writing contest. They will be writing about topics that are relevant to their lives such as gang violence, drug prevention, and leadership.
Funding this project, will allow students to give a voice to their ideas through writing.
In college, majority of the assignments are written essay type assignments. This project will assist students with writing skills which builds reading skills. The two go hand and hand. The goal is for them to be successful life long learners. This project is will impact and support their learning.
