My students need a a class set of Crayola markers, a class set of "Write Start" colored pencils and mini pencils. We don't do any worksheets so we need writing instruments to do our own work.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have approximately 25 students in my pre-kindergarten program. They come from the highest population density and poorest area of our large, urban city. All are on the free lunch program and 100% are learning English as a second language. Ninety-five percent of the students have had no educational experience before coming to my program. Therefore, the year with me has to count for four years.
My students come to our classrooms with no real life experiences.
Many have never been read to or experienced the joy of learning with hands-on educational toys nor even have held a pencil or crayon. Our students are significantly behind their non-disadvantaged peers. With your help, we can close that education gap.
My Project
My students do not do any worksheets so they must draw, write and illustrate their own work. We do journal writing each morning where the students use markers and crayons. We also have a "Writing Center" which we call the office where the students practice writing, mailing letters, make cards, and drawing and creating all kinds of things. We also have mini writing stations included in each center where the students learn to write their names, their friends' names, the alphabet, numbers, etc.
Most of the students come to school without every having held a pencil.
The parents tell me that they love to draw now because I have such a variety of things for them to write with. Remember,"Every child is an artist," Pablo Picasso.
