My Students
In rural Northern Maine, I teach about 110 students at a small community centered high school. These young adults inspire me to, not only do my very best to prepare them for life beyond high school, but to create creative content that appeals to a variety of learning styles and interests.
My students are creative, curious, and ready for a challenge.
They work well together but are also motivated individuals. They are engaged in their learning, always striving to make real-world connections that help them grow as students and as individuals. Their enthusiasm, humor, and kindness create a learning environment that is accepting, rigorous, and thought-provoking.
My Project
Exploring, practicing, and completing the writing process is essential to improving writing and learning new writing skills. The writing process of pre-writing, drafting, self-editing, peer-editing, conferencing, and publishing is a daily occurrence in my writing classroom. These skills are not only essential to high school writing curriculum, but to postsecondary school and beyond. In order to successfully complete each step of this process, students need basic writing and annotation materials.
Students will use the requested pencils, highlighters, colored pens, and Post-it notes during the prewriting, drafting, and editing stages of writing.
They will use the staples to publish their work with the goal of sharing it with peers. Having a variety of materials for students to choose from will allow each individual student to create a writing process that is meaningful to them and will serve them best in their future.
These materials would help my students become effective, independent writers. Building a foundation of writing skills will help students become effective communicators ensuring college and career readiness.
