My Students

My Rhode Island fifth grade students, just like all students across the world, are facing unknown circumstances when it comes to their future learning. We are currently following a hybrid model so some students are doing 100% Distance Learning and others are in front of me part of the week It is a crazy situation teaching in-person students and Distance Learning students from their homes AT THE SAME TIME.

Our students are eager to learn, but many do not have the books at home to read.

We are a Title I School. A majority of them have not been exposed to enough good literature; therefore are not motivated to read. This book is entertaining for students in 5th grade. It is well-written and filled with voice students totally relate to! Please consider donating. You will put smiles on 50 faces several times over as each enjoys this amazing story! Thank you.

My Project

We will use this entertaining book in a wide variety of ways. Students will have choice boards with various book-related activities to choose from as assignments. Sometimes we will read together. Kids may independently read or work in a breakout room collaboratively in a literature circle in-person or on a Google Meet. I may read a few chapters as a read aloud. Writing activities and analyzing story elements will be embedded within our activities. The goal is to overall let the students enjoy the story too! I don't want it to just be "work." That is why I chose this book!
