The Worlds We Can Discover! Fantasy Book Club Series
My students need fantasy stories at their reading level to accompany their journey through understanding the elements of a fantasy story, and to use during book clubs.
Our culture is what makes us who we are. We believe that. My crew is a group of 25 vibrant young boys and girls who come together every day to celebrate us! We are a group made up of Polynesian, Hispanic, Caucasian, and refugees... and we are all different. That is what makes us unique. This is what bonds us together.
My students are eager to learn and they ask thought-provoking questions.
However, their lives are not easy. Our school is located in a low socioeconomic neighborhood outside of Salt Lake City, Utah. But even though daily concerns of survival plague some of these children, they still are able to share compassion and have perseverance each day their bright and beautiful faces enter our classroom.
We all work and paddle our canoe together to succeed. We are crew!
My Project
Fantasy novels are enticing, adventurous, and exciting! This genre pulls in even the most reluctant readers. My students will be participating in fantasy book clubs to dig deep into the wonderful genre of fantasy and accompany our Language Arts unit. We will have each book club reading a different fantasy novel, such as "The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe", "Gregor the Overlander", "City of Ember" and "The Map to Everywhere". During book clubs, students will not only be reading and discussing their story with their peers, but also writing journal entries using the concepts of higher order thinking.
A story allows us to escape from reality and enter a world of imagination!
. These fantasy novels will accompany a class fantasy book that we will be reading together, writing our own fantasy stories and learning about the elements in fictional stories. Help our crew make that escape to these wonderful worlds where dragons fly, and children are the heroes!
