One word comes in mind when I want to describe my students: Resilient. My students overcome many struggles daily, even before they enter my room. They leave their problems at the door, put on a strong face, and then work hard to succeed in class in order create a better path in life, utilizing their education. I am immensely inspired by their resilience, which makes me what to be an effective teacher for them.
Collaboration, creativity, discussions, and teamwork is the norm in my classroom.
Everyday new questions, problems and scenarios are solved using hands-on activities, videos, and engaging lessons. We even create using art, music, and/or technology to generate a deeper understanding of the topic we are covering.
Our motto in our classroom, is that everyone can learn from anyone. If you were to walk in my class, you will see a student explaining a math problem to a group of other students with whiteboards, or another group discussing and explaining why plants are important to the world. Our goal is for everyone to success, so help everyone. It warms my heart when I see the joint effort my students put in to achieve their dreams.
The materials and supplies that I am requesting for my students will increased collaboration and participation. Comfortable students are calm, focused, and productive. Students learn better when they have a chance to work together. Flexible seating allows students to easily pair up, work in small groups, or discuss as a whole class.
My job as a teacher is to make sure my students are well equipped with skills and characteristics that will prepare them for the 21st century workforce.
Those skills include collaboration, digital literacy, critical thinking, inventive thinking, and effective communication. These skills will come into play when it comes to getting hired and being successful in the workplace.
Flexible seating allows for a student-focused learning environment which supports the skills needed in the 21st century. With the furniture that I am requesting, I will be able to design an environment that supports individual and team learning. Also, the furniture will give my classroom a "home away from home" feel. Students will be more comfortable to voice their ideas. This will allow more students to contribute to student discussions, collaboration, and work time instead of just a select few.
Having these pieces of furniture will help me produce students that are ready for the 21st century workforce.
