Our School is a first year K-8 start up charter school that began the year with 560 students. The majority of our students are military dependents. We are located adjacent to a military institution which is in the low income region of our city.
My classrooms has a total of 102, 6th & 7th grade students, who are fascinated by science. We have books to study, but very limited on lab equipment. These students learn best by hands on activities and having microscopes will help foster a successful learning environment.
Since our school is STEM based, these microscopes will help my students get the hands on experience they need while building our science resources.
My students will learn how to use a microscope, ask questions, observe, analyze, explain, and draw conclusions.
They will share microscopes in a team lab setting. This will provide opportunities to share knowledge and learn from one another.
In Their Own Words
We are trying to raise money to purchase microscopes for our science classes. Having microscopes available in the classroom will allow us to create and make our own microscope slides instead of just looking at pictures in the science books. This will create teamwork and hands on learning in our classroom.
We have researched as a 6th/7th grade team to decide which microscopes would work best in our classroom. After this is approved, we will ask friends and family to support our class in making this dream become a reality. Finally we will take pictures and share with others what we have learned.
This project is important to our science classes because it will help solve the problem of not having lab equipment (microscopes) to study cells, cell processes, and DNA. It will also help us study many other areas of science that are microscopic and can't be seen with the naked eye or a hand lens.
