Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are 3rd graders in a Social Communication Support classroom. The students in my classroom have sensory processing disorders and autism. Students often struggle with processing different environmental factors in the classroom which impact student learning.
The primary focus in our classroom is communication.
The students in the classroom often communicate with each other utilizing pictures to express their wants or needs. In our classroom, we use a hands-on approach as we cook weekly, create art projects, utilize frequent movement breaks, and incorporate items that make every aspect of academics a hands-on experience.
Each student in my classroom has an Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) which provides them with a unique educational experience. Students participate in breakfast and snack in our classroom. During these times, we learn how to set a table, use manners, and further our focus of communication!
My Project
Currently students do not have social studies curriculum. I would like my students to learn basic map skills, traffic symbols, cities, countries, learn about careers, etc. at the student's level! This curriculum provides three different levels so every student is able to participate!
Help give us a way to learn about the world in which we live each day!
This curriculum will give us 540 lessons!!! It includes testing (before and after the lesson has been taught testing), 540 lessons, and data sheets to track student's learning!
This curriculum would give my students a way to learn about the world that we live in at their individual level. Imagine learning how to read a map, different careers to aspire too, and learning about inspiring people like Harriet Tubman or Martin Luther King jr!
