This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach a district charter school in California. I teach kindergarten to a very low socio-economic population.

In the area that I teach, my students have precious few chances to get ahead. Many of their parents work multiple jobs and get to spend little time with their children. This is clearly seen in the entering kindergarten students. These students come in and know very little and some can not even write a letter.

Many of my students come in to my class with no ability to critically think and experiment. A water table is a basic way to teach my students about buoyancy and capacity. With this table that also can be used for sand, I can help my students with their fine motor skills. Many students I teach come into the school year with little or no ability to use a pencil. By using the sand table I can give my students a creative, interactive and fun way to develop those skills necessary for exceeding in school.

With your help, I can give my students the keys to long term success. We can open the door of achievement for these students who do not have many opportunities for victory in the field of academia.
