Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are eager and excited to learn. I am always looking for ways to get them engaged and involved in their learning. Making learning fun and having students take pride in their learning is a priority for me.
According to the Illinois Interactive Report Card, 94.1% of our students are living in poverty in conjunction with 72.3% being language learners.
Our teachers are passionate about providing instruction to bridge the achievement and language gap, but we lack the necessary resources to meet them at their diverse academic and language proficiency levels. Our students also lack the educational materials and opportunities at home that so many of us take for granted. My students are always so excited to receive new materials and it really helps to boost engagement.
My Project
Flexible seating gives students a choice of where they can move around the day. It allows for students to feel comfortable while learning. They can choose to bounce, teeter, stand or wobble! Students can move throughout the day and listen to instruction with flexible seating options.
Research has shown that students' attitudes change greatly when flexible seating is an option.
They are happier and have fun while maintaining concentration. Students become more responsible and are empowered by making choice throughout the day. Flexible seating caters to students needs. By implementing flexible seating, I know my classroom environment will change in an extremely positive way!
