My Students

My students are a fun bunch of kids! Each is completely unique in personality and learning style. I have several students who have just recently discovered their love of reading and that thrills me!

Our school is a small rural school in the middle of Oklahoma.

We are a high poverty area but are blessed by having greatly supportive parents. Our whole staff, elementary through high school, work together to do what is best for our students.

My Project

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is an amazing book with several literary elements in it that my students will be able to practice finding and working with. They will look closely at the elements of plot, imagery, and figurative language. The students will also be writing readers responses and answering comprehension questions.

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz book is radically different from the movie.

One of the things I like to point out is that Hollywood changes books to their benefit. We discuss why those changes might have been made and if those changes were impactful or if they harmed the purpose of the book.
