This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our students are curious, loving, excited, helpful, friendly, eager to learn and inquisitive. They love preschool because they have an opportunity to socialize with adults and peers, verbalize their thoughts, express their feelings, and work with hands-on materials that support their growth and development. Our families are majority African-Americans who have limited access to learning materials. We need help exposing our students to a rich interactive learning environment that promotes critical thinking, language development, social interaction, self-discipline, problem-solving, and a lifelong desire to learn.
My Project
The butterfly pavilion will allow my students to observe, for first hand, the life cycle of a living thing. From caterpillar to butterfly big book activity kit, they will be able to connect what is being read to the actual observation of a life cycle. The flip chart will give the students a quick review of the life cycle. The life cycle theme box will allow them to work with manipulative that creates the life cycle in their hands. Through their observations, students will be able to ask and answer questions about the concept. They will be able to illustrate their thoughts about a life cycle. This will bring about a new level of engagement and connection that I could leverage to instill a life long lesson that could be carried throughout their educational careers. I feel this would be an invaluable experience for them an I would be very grateful if I could have the opportunity to deliver this lesson.
