Help me give my students the experience of reading "Wonder." These books will be used year after year as we read and discuss the impact our words have on others.

My Students
My school is a small, public school in Southern Illinois. Fifth grade is a pivotal year for students, as they are being taught tough curriculum, dealing with more responsibilities, and heavier homework loads. It is a year where a lot of important changes are taking place.
My students are a fun, hardworking group of kids who deserve the best education they can get.
They try their best, even when they are learning concepts that aren't that easy to understand. I could not ask for a better group of kids to teach.
My Project
Reading "Wonder" will give my students an opportunity to learn about how their words can affect others. We will talk about differences and how they should be celebrated and not shamed. These books will be used year after year in my classroom, and the importance of friendship will be stressed with the help of this book. Not only will we learn about thinking before we say hurtful things, this book is a great way to teach point of view. The story is told from August's point of view, his sister's point of view, as well as other characters from the book.
I believe "Wonder" is a book all children should read, and by donating to my project, it can become a reality in my classroom.
Everyone can remember a time someone has said hurtful words to them. My hope is this book makes my students more aware of how they talk to their peers. We are all different, and we all deserve to be respected. I believe Auggie's story can impact my classroom in such a positive way.
