I need funding to participate in a coding conference where I will learn how to teach robotics in all subject areas!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
This year, I am teaching 2nd grade and boy, am I a busy teacher! My students love interacting with each other and contributing towards our everyday activities.
Together we create a community of love and caring for one another.
Each student is helpful, creative, a thinker, and always striving hard to do their best. They enjoy being able to move around while doing an activity and talk about what they are doing in school or in life. In class, I try to feed off of those interests to create a learning environment that will be beneficial to them.
I hope to help them understand that they can do and be whatever they want as long as they are willing to try, work hard, and ask for help.
This conference is exciting to me because I get the opportunity to learn about robotics. In the last few years, I have gained understanding of coding technology and am continuing to learn every year but, I am ready to add something a little more hands-on into my classroom. The Wonder Workshop gives me the opportunity to learn how to program a robot using online technology to give it commands. These robots fascinate me and since they do that for me, I am sure they will do that for my students.
In using Wonder Robots, I can help my students get a better perspective of what engineering is and engage their critical thinking skills in order to problem solve.
I will be able to implement a way to use concrete strategies to teach the abstract nature of coding and help students becoming code literate. A bonus is that the program can be used across all subject areas!
An excited teacher teaches with excitement which results in excited students. Please help me excite my class and others in the future by supporting my professional development.
