My students are energetic nine and ten year old children.
They enter the classroom each day full of energy and wonderment for what I might teach them. The problem I face is a simple one. Students today seem to be easily distracted and need much more movement in order to maintain focus. Gone are the days of old where students were expected to sit in a desk facing forward while the teacher directed all learning. My students are working with technology to create meaning from content learned and apply it to the real world. However, some have a harder time than others staying in one spot long enough to do these types of tasks. I wish to provide my restless, fidgety, and even special needs students with a way to stimulate their minds by providing an opportunity to move while they learn. I am certain that somewhere in my class is our next great scientist or even president. My problem is he or she can't seem to concentrate long enough to show their brilliance! They have seen wobble stools in other classrooms in our school and constantly beg me to get them for our classroom. I need your help!
My Project
I am seeking help in purchasing wobble chairs for small group work. Wobble chairs are mini stools which can be rocked or rotated while students learn. It has been found this helps struggling learners stay focused by providing movement without disturbance to others.
Students today work best when allowed to move, but sometimes instruction has to be given at a table or group setting.
These chairs will allow my students to rotate while continuing to work/exercise their minds. Research has shown these types of devices are invaluable for helping many students with disabilities, too. Please help me provide this needed "movement" for my students so they can be the best learners possible.
