After dedicating many years to becoming a teacher, I am so excited to finally have my very own classroom; I will be teaching approximately 60 third-grade students Science, Social Studies, and Writing.
My Dual Language classes will consist of awesome bilingual kiddos who are eager to learn and experience hands-on opportunities that will grow their knowledge of the world around them.
Our student population is over 90% free/reduced lunches. Further, many of my students have limited experiences outside of this community and face language barriers as ESL learners. This said, I know that this upcoming year will be an exciting and new experience for all of us. Amazing things are going to happen every day in our classroom and school as my students and I learn and grow together.
When my project is fully funded, my students will have access to several flexible seating options that allow them to move while they learn. Not every student learns best while sitting in a metal chair for entire class periods. In fact, research shows this is not how students learn. Is this how you learned best? Students learn best when they are comfortable, can purposefully use their energy, and work in a position that meets their physical needs.
It's very important in the classroom for students to have a choice in how they sit and where they sit.
Studies have shown that choices improve student engagement and motivation! I believe that all students should have a choice of where they sit in the classroom or where they learn best! By choosing a seat such as a wiggle chair or a stability ball, students can focus more on their education. Most importantly, not only will flexible seating help improve student achievement through enhanced learning, but my students' physical health will also be improved.
