My students are energetic, earnest, and entertaining human beings who love to learn socially. They listen excitedly as we read together, they participate in conversations, and do their best (with a little prompting) to practice various skills.
Our school is located in a rural, high poverty area, and while some students are well-loved and well-fed, not all are; despite the struggles that typically come with poverty, my kids still show up to be fed, cared about, and learn.
Nothing makes me happier than being able to help them improve as students and as people.
My Project
For the past two years, I have been fortunate enough to teach an elective literature class to 8th, 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students. Last year, we started with Book One, and this year I hope to teach another section of that book and will teach a session of Book Three. All of last year's students that are still in-district are returning, and some of their peers have joined in as well. This course allows my students to feel a way that they don't always feel; they get to exist together in a space in which they all feel they truly belong! (That alone is enough to keep me teaching through June!)
With your donation, I will be able to help provide my students with an immersive experience that draws from a popular novel from the wizarding world to teach reading, writing, biology, family and consumer sciences, and physical education skills and standards!
