Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am always looking to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
Many of my students cannot find books that are interesting to them because of monetary means or lack of opportunity.
I want my students to be inspired to become lifelong readers but in order for them to do that they need the opportunity to gain literature knowledge of different types of genres.
My Project
As a reader, I read the Harry Potter series at least every two years. I have noticed a sharp decline in the Harry Potter books in regards to student interest. These books have a fantastical ability to transport the reader into a world full of magic, charm, and unforgettable characters. My school library has a class set of "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" but not the first book in the series which is "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone".
I would like to have a class set of the first book in the series so my students will be able to engage with the story from the beginning of the series.
If my students were able to read the first book in the series then we can also utilize the second book as a follow up to the story. By doing this it will hopefully lead them to a path of reading all seven books and open up a world of possibilities and magic.
