My students need tablets in order to provide differentiated instruction through center rotations in several subject areas such as math, science and literacy.
Being an educator in a high poverty and low income school district comes with both difficulties and victories when teaching in a primary classroom. Currently, I have a classroom filled with 20 students whom 7 of them speak a different language in their home. Being multilingual is a wonderful gift, however several of my Kindergartners need extra practice and personalized instruction to fit their specific academic needs. Students who enter my classroom know that they are smart, respected and cared for by both their teacher and peers. By having my Donors Choose project funded, my students will know other people believe in them as well. This will help light the fire to inspire and encourage my Kindergarten learners to continue on a path of academic excellence in the classroom!
My Project
With your generous donation, I am hoping to be able to acquire five (5) tablets for my Kindergarten classroom at our charter school in Nashua, NH. These tablets will be used to expand the educational horizon of my 20 Kindergartners by providing them with the invaluable opportunity to learn through hands-on experiences with technology. Tablets are no longer just for video games and reading at the beach, the newest generations of tablets are user friendly and full of educational innovation, which has already demonstrated limitless potential in the classroom.
In practice, I would utilize these tablets in my class as part of center rotations for differentiated classroom materials and reinforcement of developmental skills in all subject areas.
More specifically, my students would be given access to research about weather and climate as well as researching about animals in Winter. Students would also use the touch and sounds features of tablets to practice letter naming and letter sounds. Every student learns differently, but tablets provide educational experiences with sight, sound and touch that can be adapted to every learning style in order for all students to reach their highest potential. Tablets not only make technology accessible at a young age, but they can improve learning, participation and increase engagement in the classroom.
