Help me give my students materials to jump start their growth in all areas of development. The discovery tubes will assist in the mindfulness and social emotional development for all of the students.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Kindergarten students with special needs can be unpredictable, however what we can predict is that my students love to come to school and engage in learning every day. Their needs vary from mild developmental delays to more severe behavior concerns. Most of the students live in the inner city and attend my classroom with the help of door to door busing.
No matter what you bring to school or how you get there, my classroom is ready to teach the whole child.
Our model includes time in the regular education classroom as well as time working on individual skills. We devote a large part of our day on our social emotional functioning. Learning to calm down, problem solve with peers, take turns, accept rules and understand how to build and maintain relationships are all life long skills that address all areas of a child's development. I'm interested in developing each and every one of my student's social emotional development.
My Project
My project is focusing on all areas of development. Students in my classroom learn best when they are calm and ready to receive instruction. Specific teaching of social emotional skills is critical in each child's development. In today's classrooms, many decision-makers forget about the importance of social emotional skills. My project will reach beyond letters and numbers and help these students learn basic relationship skills.
You will find us dressing up for career role-playing, calming down with sensory tubes or working through our feelings through social emotional language activities on a daily basis.
My students learn best through active engagement. These materials will create an active learning environment that will prepare the students for their future one day and one skill at a time.
