Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This middle school is a wonderfully diverse school with a cross-section of students that come from a community that speaks over 10 different languages and filter into one of the largest public high school in the state of Connecticut. We are a Title I city school with over 71% free and reduced lunch populations. The diversity of our population is what makes this school so special.
There are theories that income has a significant impact on educational performance.
Well then, we are a school where over 70% of the population are from low-income families. We are classified as District Reference Group "H," which is the second lowest socioeconomic level a school can be placed in. Our students, who are also children, come from hard working and very diverse backgrounds and cultures and often do not have the resources that allow them to succeed at higher levels.
My Project
This project has been created to set students up for success. The walls and desktops in their classroom can be used as templates for learning. Whiteboard paint can clean up the walls and tables as well as used for student teamwork. The walls are magnetic and if painted can be used for lessons for showing student work.
Teamwork on the wall or on a tabletops expand opportunities to have make learning fun.
Student creativity can enrich the ability to retain the knowledge and skills taught in the classroom.
The students can be included in the creation of the learning environment. The painting process can include the students and be used as a Math lesson for square feet vs wall surface area. We have an advisory class for students to do projects in the school. This project has been created to give the Advisory students a project that will directly impact their learning and improve their classroom.
