Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a low income high needs classroom. I work in an inclusion class where we have general and special education students. My co-teacher and I are currently teaching the students basic writing skills and hope to build on that so that they can succeed in their ELA Regents exam as well as be successful in college.
My students and I would very much appreciate a visual presenter so that as a class we can work on editing skills. With a visual presenter we will be able to use their work and place it on the screen and read and edit it in real time. We currently cannot do that as we do not have the necessary tools. Instead we make copies of a particular writing piece and circulate it to the students. However, with your help our students will be taught how to look for errors in their writing and make corrections as the teacher will be able to model these skills using the visual presenter. In addition, we could work with them on their writing in a more cohesive fashion. We could work on essay writing by pointing out to the structures of an essay and also by asking them to edit paragraphs as a group. Learning to write essays is a necessary skill that will serve them well in college. I would love to be able to teach them skills that can be used across the high school curriculum as well as later on in their college years.
With your generosity, I will be able to incorporate using a visual presenter as part of my daily teaching routine. Not only is this visual tool an excellent way to teach, but it also works as a great classroom management strategy.
