My students come from low-income families who cannot afford basic classroom materials. They come to school every day with a passion to learn. They have all set high goals for themselves and are college-bound students. They have a positive attitude and are appreciative of what we have in the classroom, no matter what the condition is. With Covid-19 being our newest challenge in education, I want to be able to give my students all the materials needed whether we are in school or distant learning at home. During the first shut down, I made sure my students had all the materials needed and went to a few students' homes to give them the materials needed.
These students should not be deprived of education just because they cannot afford classroom materials.
Our classroom resources are low due to funding. The classroom books we have are falling apart and students often have to share. We have very little technology. My school is also limited in physical activity items. When we do come back, I want to provide students with fun brain break activities, whether it’s during school or after school activities.
My Project
Teaching virtually has been a challenge. One resource that has helped with some of the virtual teaching challenges has been Teachers Pay Teachers. This is a wonderful website that provide resources already made by other teachers. I have included a gift card for this website in this project because purchasing some of the resources on here can become pricey. This website has saved me so much time since I've had to recreate my curriculum due to teaching virtually and it provides my students with engaging activities that meet the state standards.
Teaching virtually has many other challenges.
Staring at a computer screen all day has left me with headaches, which way I included UV glasses to help with the side affects of staring at a computer screen all day. This project also includes a headset for students to hear me clearly and to help cancel out unnecessary noises in the background. As well as pens and folders for me to keep portfolios of my students and track their progress.
