The Very Hungry Readers Need Brain Food, Fiction and Nonfiction!
Help me give my students the brain food they need to grow academically. They need to read a variety of levels and genres at different stages throughout the school year!
I teach a second grade bilingual class in an urban school. All of my students are from immigrant families. My students love to read and their reading range is from Level B to M. Some are beginning to launch into chapter books while others are struggling with decoding single-syllable words. Most of their parents speak very limited English and work long hours. My classroom library is the most important and essential resource for my students to choose the just-right books that will both captivate their attention and turn them into joyful readers.
To ensure that my students' individual reading needs are met, I need to provide a variety of fiction and nonfiction leveled books for them to practice the reading strategies in school and at home.
It warms my heart to see the excitement of my students going toward the classroom library the first thing after they enter the classroom. They are eager to get ready for the Reader's Workshop. Set, Ready, and Read!
My classroom needs a Guided Reading Collection: Grade 2 Full Grade to expand my classroom library selection which enables my students to practice the reading strategies with joy and comprehension.
My Project
The Guided Reading Collection will enrich my classroom library selection. My classroom library is the essential resource that my students get their books for in school and home reading. Regretfully, my classroom library only has a very limited selection of book titles for each reading level, yet my growing readers are so hungry that most have read and reread all of book titles at their level before they are ready to move up to the next level. They need more fiction and nonfiction titles to keep the reading interest growing!
With the Guided Reading Collection: Grade 2 Full Grade, my students will be able to read a variety of fiction and nonfiction book titles with joy and comprehension.
This project will help enrich their reading experiences by giving them the practice they need to grow as English language learners and expose them to topics that can captivate their attention as well as challenge them to take charge of their own learning!
