Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a growing public school in Newark, NJ. Our school celebrates inclusion and houses many bilingual students. My 17 energetic kindergartners enter the classroom ready to learn, discover, and explore.
At our school we are known as the "Stars", and in order to polish our stars we need to give them the tools needed so they can continue to sparkle and shine.
They are curious, compassionate, and creative learners. They come to school each day ready to try new things.
My Project
Reading is important for young children. It helps children learn sounds, words, and develop early literacy skills.
Reading can help spark children's imagination and stimulate curiosity.
Part of the fun of teaching kindergarten is introducing eager students to a collection of fantastic books. Reading expands children's vocabulary, helps build independence, enhances imagination, improves grammar, and improves writing. Being able to read helps children understand what is what and the purpose it serves. It is important to start reading at a young age and teach children the value of reading so they will grow to practice it often and value their ability to do so.
